“I would… I’d like to see it done” said Donald Trump on Friday at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida saying that if a deal for ByteDance to divest the U.S. assets of TikTok by June 19, the current deadline is not reached there will be an extension.
Over 170 million Americans use TikTok and Democratic senators said that Donald Trump has no authority to extend the deadline.
A source close to ByteDance’s U.S. investors said that work on the deal continues, however the U.S. would first have to resolve its trade dispute with China.
Trump said that on tariffs China was keen to reach an agreement saying the 145% tariffs were having an impact on China’s economy and they would eventually be lowered as part of a broader agreement but would not drop them to bring China to the bargaining table.
