Uber partners with May Mobility to bring robotaxis to U.S. cities

Starting in Arlington, Texas in late 2025 May Mobility will add thousands of self-driving vehicles to Uber‘s platform adding to Uber’s already existing partnerships with Alphabet’s Waymo and China’s WeRide and Avride. The vehicles are expected to be gasoline-electric hybrid Toyota Sienna minivans, company which along BMW is also an investor in the $380 million round raised by May Mobility.

May Mobility did not only partner with Uber but also Lyft in a similar fashion launch of self-driving Lyft taxis in Atlanta, Georgia at the start of this year.

Experts caution the self-driving taxis face significant engineering and regulatory challenges, the U.S. federal government on its part is facilitating the launch of self-driving vehicles by adding to exemptions from safety requirements, however still maintaining mandatory incident reporting.

Before going fully self-driving, May Mobility will operate with safety drivers.
