It seems it took Spotify no time to take advantage of a court ruling and update its app with an external link to buy subscriptions in the US, saying in a letter to Apple it planned to make such a change in light of a court ruling which said Apple must not levy its 27% commission on purchases outside apps.
Such court ruling came after a previous one saying Apple had to allow greater competition for app downloads and payment methods which the current court ruling said Apple failed to comply with and was referred to federal prosecutors for failing to comply with the same judge’s prior injunction order imposed in an antitrust lawsuit brought by “Fortnite” maker Epic Games.
“The fact that we haven’t been able to deliver these basic services, which were permitted by the judge’s order four years ago, is absurd” said Spotify in a blog post.
Apple said it was going to comply with the court order which it disagrees with and plans to appeal.
It is not only Epic Games but also Spotify that has objections to and has been grappling with Apple’s App store policies.
